Putting Things in Perspective

I am trying to improve my drawing skills and learn perspective. This is an example of 2 point perspective. Although it looks very simple you would not believe how long it took me to get this correct. I do hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know that I have so much to be thankful for.

This is just a quick little study in texture. It is 5x7 and was inspired by a tutorial from Debi Watson's website. I used cobalt blue and burnt sienna for the color. The texture was achieved by splattering masking, water spritzing, paint splatter and granulating medium. Once the background was in the color was removed from the shell shapes with a Mr Clean Magic Eraser and then detail and shadows added.

I don't have a painting to share but this is a photo that I took today.

A big thank you to all of our Veterans on this Veterans Day.

Chickadee Final

Well I am not really happy with the background but will use it to figure out what to do better next time. I guess every painting can't turn out the way you want.

Chickadee WIP II

I was going to get by easy with just a wet in wet background until Rhonda asked the simple question in the previous post - "Are you going to add leaves?" The chickadee already had masking on it just waiting for the background (that is why is looks a little bit fuzzy in this picture). Knowing that it would look better with leaves but scared to draw them I guess I needed a little push. I went out and studied my pear tree which is just starting to put on some autumn color and gave it a try. Thanks Rhonda! It will be next weekend before I have time to finish the background but I certainly will be much happier with the finished painting.

Here is a little Chickadee WIP. I still have the background to do. It is a 5x7 painted on Aquabord (previously called Claybord Textured).
