Fall Harvest Studies

Once again I painted 3 studies at the same time for practice on landscapes/skies. They are 5x7 on Fabriano Soft Press 300 lb paper.

Wow wish I could paint clouds like you, you are very comfortable with the subject! May I ask why you like soft press? Beautiful all!

Thank you Erika. Comfortable with the subject - not yet but they are getting easier. Soft Press is a new paper for me. I have always used Hot Press (usually Arches) because I love the smooth surface. The SP has a silky feel to it and it accepts paint very well. I can add additional layers without a lot of lifing problems. Although I have used it for a short time I can see it being my main paper.

Hi Vicki,
What beautiful paintigns! I must try soft pressed and only hope I can get as nice of results. Painting small is so challenging, I think, but you've got it down.

Thanks Sandy!

I already commented on these at the WcW but wanted to say again how wonderful those clouds are! I watched the Tom Jones free video on painting clouds that you were trying to accomplish and think you had best stick with whatever method you are using and not try to adopt his. Whatever you are doing works for you so don't worry about his method. I tend to use a method for clouds that is closer to his but I have never achieved the soft, puffy cloud-filled sky as you have with these so I salute you, again!
