Croatian Stroll - Another WIP

Here is another WIP picture of Croatian Stroll. I have added a picture of the reference photo that I am working from. I hope to be close to a finish this weekend. All thoughts, ideas and suggestions are welcome. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. The weather is great here - finally!

Hi Vicki,
Your painting is going great but I couldn't help noticing that you have chosen a difficult reference to work from. I just mean that the foliage on the top right is hard to decipher and the only opening that the steps lead to is 'closed in'. Maybe you could add a touch of blue sky or green fields depending on what is there in the bg in the photo. Just a thought.. I can see you have already started working on the window..

Thank you for your ideas. I probably will do one with some changes later but with this one I am trying to stay very close to the reference photo. I want to give a print as a thank you to the couple that supplied the photo from their vacation.

You are doing a great job; I like realism (duh!) and I'm sure the couple will appreciate a print of this painting. You might want a bit more of the dark on the wall on the right, to soften the steps and wall connection and help tie them together.

Thanks Deb. I think you are right, there are several areas that I need to darken althought IRL my painting is not quite a washed out as this picture. I think I have given up fighting the fact that realism just makes me very happy.

Hey Vicki...this is coming along great. I am waiting, however, for you to play up the warm colors in that wall and the middle portion of steps, I think that would play well against the dark of the ways.

Nothing wrong with realism!

Thanks Susan. I may be back asking for help next weekend.

You are doing a great job on this, Vicki. Lovely texture and great shadows on the other wall, too. I would like to see you play up the red pot vs the red in the greenery a bit more - that would be an unexpected and fun surprise for the eyes. Keep going slowly but surely - it's looking soooo good!

Thanks Rhonda. I have already worked on that area some this past weekend and had not thought of your idea but next wip can see what you suggest to brighten it up a bit.
