Bleeding Heart Vine in Colored Pencil

Here is a little colored pencil sketch that was inspired from Leslie's Drawing A Day Blog.
You will have to scroll down to the end of September or first part of October to see the neat little recessed borders that she does.  Anyway I wanted to give one a try and this one is done on taupe mat board that is 5x7 total (including border). It was really fun to do and I would not mind doing a few more. Thanks Leslie for the inspiration!

The watercolor to the right is the painting that I sent to Jane in Pennsylvania for my SWAP group. This is "Sunny" my betta fish that keeps me company in the studio as I paint.   Each quarter we paint a 5x7 or 7x9 watercolor and Rhonda   http://rhcarpenter.blogspot.com/ draws names and we send them off while we wait for our suprise to arrive in the mail.  Thanks Rhonda for all of your hard work.

Beautiful, I really like the format you used with it going outside of the borders.

I really love bleeding hearts, and this one is going to be super. I'll have to check out that artist's blog and see how she does it. I also like little Sunny a lot, too :)

Vicki...I am so tickled!
The Bleeding Hearts drawing is wonderful!
Now you know my secret...less to draw if you don't add so much background...don't tell anybody.

I love the bleeding hearts. I wonder if they would grow here...

Sunny is gorgeous. Jane will love the painting.

Thank you Krista, Rhonda, Leslie and Candy. Leslie after doing this one I have even greater admiration for your skill. Mat board is a much different surface to work on. Candy bleeding hearts have a very wide growing range but do struggle with intense summer heat so you probably need to do some research.

Vicki...Bleeding Hearts are one of my fav flowers! Being born and raised on the Arizona desert I didn't know they existed since they cannot grow here. When we moved to the Seattle area a garden center person suggested I try Bleeding Hearts. I was amazed at their delicacy and beauty! Every Winter they died down and I held my breath until Spring and they always came back, better than ever.

This is a fantastic representation of them, great format and delicacy of the blooms shown. Love this one!

Vicki,
How beautiful. Here in NH, our bushes grow huge and produce many of these lovely little "arms" of delicate beauty. We have both the pink and white varieties and each year seems better than the last. You have captured their essence wonderfully. Great piece!

Thanks Ruth. So many lovely plants like this last only one or two seasons here if they survive at all. The heat and humidity makes it tough to thrive.

Love your bleeding heart in pencils. Yes, the heat is really hard on some plants, I live in Central Fl. Hot ! Humid! I can't have poppies, my favorite flower.

Thanks Barbra Joan. I am in North Florida so I understand. I also wish I could have tulips but......
