Conte du Renard WIP - Update

Here is an update on Monsieur Renard.  The first photo I put in the background and the second photo is where I am at today.  I believe I am getting close to the finish line on this one!  Thanks to dominiqs @ flickr for use of the photo.  Thanks for checking in everyone.

Vicki, your detail and texture in this painting are amazing. How do you make the fur look so real with watercolor? Is it a mixture of transparent watercolor and gouache?

Vicki Greene said...

Thanks so much Nancy! It is just a lot of layers of transparent watercolor. I only used gouache inside the ears.

Vicki, this is one outstanding piece of work. Every stroke is masterful. Really, really beautiful. His eyes are most striking, but in addition to the marvelous rendering of his fur, I also love the interior of his ears and his nose. Of all the comments you've received on this no one has mentioned the bg. I love the opposing texture of it and the contrasting color. Perfect!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. It is so rewarding to read your comments. Glad you find the techniques I write about useful to your learning experience. Thanks again. BTW, you may have used someone else's photo, BUT, YOU made the choice of selecting the perfect pose and composition. This must make that person totally proud. Great job!
