Magnificent Petite #2 - Snow Leopard

This is the second painting in my Magnificent Petite Series. I painted this snow leopard a while back in colored pencil and now I will be doing it with a combination of india ink, watercolor & colored pencil.  The finished panting will be 5x5 inches.  This is the very early stages of my WIP.  I have the basic drawing and the beginning layers of color on the eyes and at this point will work on the leopard and then go back and finish the eyes toward the end of the painting.  Thank you for joining me in the journey of the snow leopard.

I'm really excited to see how you will blend watercolor with colored pencil. I've been aching to try some watercolors, but not ready to give up colored pencils entirely. Please post your step by step progress! I''m looking forward to it!

Vicki, this snow leopard is already so alive with those mesmerizing eyes!

Thanks Katherine. Since the colored pencila are waxed based the painting backbone will be watercolr and then I will use colored pencil last to define and refine. I have family visiting from out of town this weekend so it will be next weekend before more progress is made. I will take progress shots and if you have any questions, just ask (although your work is so amazing, I can't imagine you haveing question from my work).
Thanks Christiane. I always feel better one I get the eyes started.

Will be watching very closely. Your paper looks watercolor rough, will your color pencils take to that? Yes, beautiful already ...

Thanks Judith & Pat.
Judith the paper is Fabriano Soft Press which is about half way between CP & HP but the camera relly emphasized the texture.

Oh, I forgot to say.... when I paint or draw my very detailed drawings, I always complete the eyes first... I don't know why, but if the eyes are good, it will work....

Thanks Barbra Joan. Hope the eye theory holds true for this one - lol.
