Wolf Painting - Finished Maybe?

I found a few minutes this afternoon to put the final touches on my wolf painting.  I haven't started the varnishing process yet so if you see something that I missed please let me know.  This is a 20x20 inch watercolor that is painted on a watercolor paper "canvas" stretched on 1.5 inch stretcher bars.  The sides are also finished so that it can be hung without a frame but I will be putting it in a floater frame to display just for added protection. It is cloudy here today so I hope to get some better pictures before varnishing.

I hope that all of my blogger friends have had a wonderful Christmas.

Exquisite painting, Vicki! I don't know if you left it that way on purpose - the wolf's skin around his left eye is brown. I am not sure if you did it intentionally to draw more attention to the right eye.
I'd love to see what the watercolor stretcher bars look like, and ask you how you varnish.

Thank you Kathryn! Actually I think I was just a slave to the reference photo. Here are a couple of links to Joyce Faulknor's methods that I use. The only thing I do differently is that my husband inserts with screws a 5.2mm piece of plywood to cover the open area and it is below the lip of the stretcher bar so that the paper does not touch it, then I paint the stretcher bars and plywood front and back with two coats of exterior white paint before stretching my paper on it. It is still lightweight but adds stability and protection to the paper"canvas".

The first link is for stretching your paper:

The second link is for varnishing:

Check these out and if you have questions, I will be glad to try and help.
