I started this little 8x10 inch painting with high hopes but I was not able to make it work.  Don't you hate putting hours and hours into a painting and end up so unhappy with it?  My last two paintings have just not been up to par so I guess I need to regroup and try again.

I am a long experienced artist and art instructor (including university level) and my first reaction to this little work was "how delightful!" I think you need to put it aside for a few days, even a couple of weeks, and bring it out again. Look quickly at it first from a bit of a distance. What is your reaction? This is much better than you are currently thinking it is:-)

Well no Vicki I'm not an expert, not formally trained, and certainly not a good painter.
Now, WHAT ? is wrong with this..
I think the lady above is right .. put it aside..
I think it's perfect .. a beautiful rose.. that's what I see! That's what matters after all .

Karen, thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I always admire your work and I certainly will take your advice. I normally am not so negative about my work so I must be pretty tired and out of sorts.
Barbra Joan, thank you and yes you are a "good painter" and your opinion is very important to me.

Vicki - I certainly know nothing about art from a professional side but I know what I like and don't and to my eye this is gorgeous. Please give it some thought before you toss it away. You are so talented maybe you are just not seeing it with fresh eyes.

Hi Vicki. I have been going through a similar funk lately with painting. I am just backing off, and playing with ideas for the sake of fun, not to produce a specific goal/painting. I'm hoping it means I am "growing". :)

Thank you Victor for your kind comment.
Debbie, thank you so much. I realize that it is more me that needs adjusting than the painting. While it may not be my best there are parts that are not bad at all.
Katherine I believe that you have hit the nail on the head. I am backing off also and seeking direction. This has been a very difficult year (probably the most difficult so far in my life) and I am tired but I know that my painting is a gift so I will take time to renew and allow that gift to develop. Thank each of you for your comments.

Vicki - this is absolutely stunning - all your florals have been so awesome ... they just blow me away. I agree that you should just sit back, relax, and enjoy what you have created.

Thank you Barb for your kind comments. You are an excellent artist and teacher and I am taking your advice.

I think this is perfect. It would be a waste if you won't finish this one. Your time and effort would be for nothing. Think about it please.

Thank you mia rose. I am just stepping away from it so that I can look at it with fresh eyes. One thing that I have learned with painting is that you always learn something with each painting even the ones that you are less than thrilled with.
