Here is an update. DH is telling me not to do a whole lot more to it. He likes what the watercolor paint has done. I am to much of a control freak to totally leave it alone but I am going to try to not get so carried away with the detail this time.
Vicki, I am a control-freak watercolorist, too. And I just was working on a painting that I think went too far with the background. The lion's face is wonderful! If anything, perhaps a background to frame his head on his right side.
I understand letting the watercolor do its thing, and sometimes it can "accidentally" do it better. I am also a control freak ... but I work with dry brush watercolor and would have to tinker with it. I am learning, though, that there is a time to quit before you are tinkered out! :)
Thank you so much guys for the encouragement and suggestions. I have more to do to it because I am just that way and it would be like going outside undressed to leave him like he is - lol.
I am agreeing with your DH on this one - just finish the dk bg behind on the left side and call it done - love the softness and the granulation and those eyes!!! WOW!
Thank you Rhonda and jgr. Rhonda, I know but I just can't leave it alone. I have that "don't know when to stop syndrome". JGR I really enjoyed visiting your studio blog - good stuff!
Stunning Lion! I know how you feel as for the wanting to detail everything, I fight it a lot. I'm a graphic artist and everything has to be clean and detailed, so I fight staying loose when painting. Thanks so much for your visit to my blog and I hope you return soon.

Vicki...I am with your DH and Rhonda...in this case, less is more! I love the granulation in this paint, may have to order some.
He's gorgeous! I agree with your DH. Those eyes!
Vicki, he is wonderful! Those eyes are great! I agree that he does not need much more.
Thanks so much Candy and Christiane!
