Lady Margaret - WIP IV

I won't offer a lot of reasons and excuses as to why this isn't finished but I did want to post a WIP shot to show that I am still working it.  I have continued to work on the face and I have started the background. 

Lady Margaret - WIP III

The weather finally cleared up enough for me to take a picture of Lady Margret's progress.  There is still a lot of refining to do to the face and of course the hat, scarf and chest but it is moving in the right direction. 

Pug - WIP

Here is my latest wip.  Sorry that I don't have any earlier wip photos but it rained for several days and I  knew that I would not get a decent photo.  I still have a long way to go.  The finished painting will be 6x6. Thanks for following along.

New Cat WIP Update

Here is a small update just to show that I am making some progress.

This is the commission that I have been working on and finished today. The owner is very happy with it. 

This beautiful Maine Coon cat's name is Solo and sadly he is no longer with us.   I added the ears and adjusted the coloring from indoor to natural light and I fell in love with him as I painted. 

The owner graciously allowed me to post her photo  along with my painting.

I am starting off the New Year painting!  I enjoy doing these little detailed paintings but they do come together rather slowly.  This is a 5x5 inch cat wip.

Wolf - WIP

Well it has been over a month since my last post and I am almost embarrassed to show so little progress but at least it is progress.  I still have a very long way to go but I will get there!  After having worked on this painting, I do have a new appreciation that God has every hair on our head numbered - lol.

Rose Painting

I was surprised when I saw that it had been so long since my last post but there were some lags in my painting time.  This is a 5x5 inch watercolor that I just "finished".  I am still looking at it to make sure that I don't want to do any touch ups before varnishing and framing it.  I have the most delightful frame and will post a picture once it is framed.  I don't have a name for it yet. All comments welcome.

Once again, it was from a reference photo that I had taken several years prior and wasn't sure that I had the necessary skills to paint it.  Yes I grew the grapes and made the jelly also!  Your comments are always welcome.

Passion Flowers

This is Project 3 of my class with Susan Bourdet.  The idea for this painting started years ago when I spotted a plant on sale at a local home improvement store.  Lady Margaret Passion Vine came home with me and promptly covered my garden fence.  The butterflies loved her and many photos were taken.   The photos were beautiful but did not think that I had the ability to paint these amazing flowers.  Susan said that I could paint this and so I did.   This watercolor painting is 20x20 inches.

Tiger

I still have much to learn in painting fur but I certainly enjoyed working on this tiger.  He is an 8x8 inch watercolor.

Mockingbird

This is the 4th project from my Susan Bourdet online class (I haven't completed project 3 yet).  This little mockingbird made itself at home on the front porch one cold winter morning and I just happened to have my camera when I opened the door.  I combined several reference photos to get the begonia to look good (they get a bit ugly in the winter - I guess they don't like being shut up either).  I really enjoyed all of the detail in this one and the background was really fun to create.

I wanted to share the postcards that are being sent out from Haven Hospice in Lake City for our art exchange.  They chose my seashell painting to go on the cards! I would be delighted to see any of you that are close enough to attend the event.

Lion WIP II

Here is an update.  DH is telling me not to do a whole lot more to it.  He likes what the watercolor paint has done.  I am to much of a control freak to totally leave it alone but I am going to try to not get so carried away with the detail this time.

I just wanted to show that I am still painting.  This is a 5x5 inch WIP.  I am just laying in the initial washes at this point.  I will try to update again this weekend.

2nd Quarter Giveaway!

I believe that it would be a good idea to have the 2nd quarter giveaway before the 2nd quarter ends - lol.  I will be giving away a framed 5x7 inch print (double matted to 11x14) of "Sunny" this time.  Sunny used to brighten up my studio. He was very social and seemed to enjoy watching me paint. Sunflowers

Many of you may remember that I mentioned I would be taking an online watercolor class.  This is my first project - Sunflowers!

This is not a cookie cutter class.  She evaluated my work, we discussed my plans/goals and we picked up at the skill level I was currently at and we are working from that point.  I am using my own reference photos and I am very pleased with my first project.  There will be 10 projects total.  Morning Glories are next!
